There will be a public graveside service at 1:00 P.M. on Monday February 13, 2017 at White Oak Cemetery 14997 N. 50th St. Oblong, IL 62449. Funeral procession will leave Pulliam Funeral Home, 302 E. Main St. Oblong, IL 62449, at 12:30 P.M. for White Oak Cemetery for those who don’t know cemetery location and would like to follow. There will be no Visitation.

The family request that in lieu of flowers that an expression of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Oblong Grade School Library with envelopes available at or may be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home P.O. Box 121 Oblong, IL 62449.

Vera Mae Hammond, 86, of Olney, IL formerly of Oblong, IL passed away on Wednesday February 8, 2017 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN.

Vera was born on September 13, 1930 to Richard “Earl” Hayden and Samantha Marie (Rankin) Hayden. On February 25, 1950 she married Thomas L. “Tom” Hammond who preceded her in death on March 24, 2010.

Vera was a homemaker. She graduated High school in 1948 in Poseyville, IN. Vera was a member and officer for the Fur Takers of America Auxiliary. Vera loved to read, watch hummingbirds and do needle point.

Vera is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law Vickie and Mike Rennier of Olney, IL and Judy Wells and Terry “Bear” Clatfelter of Marshall, IL.; Seven grandchildren Thomas and Brenda Hammond III, Louisville, KY, David and Shannon White, Crossville, IL, Jenni and Warren Swingle, Evansville, IN, Joey Wells and Melissa Thornhill, Marshall, IL, Ashley and Jose Garcia, Cabo San Lucas, MX, Samantha and Ron Ferris, Hudson, IL and Kenny and Aleah Clatfelter, Mattoon, IL.; fourteen great grand children; one sister Dorothy Williams, New Harmony, IN.  Vera is also survived by a daughter-in-law Carolyn Hammond, Crossville, IL, Joe Patterson, Robinson, IL who was like a son, sister-in-law Myra Savoy, Olney, IL along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Vera in death were here parents, husband, son Thomas Hammond Jr. and three brothers Don, Robert and her twin brother Vernon Hayden.
